Greg Pizzoli is a devilishly funny illustrator. His ability to capture pure mirth comes from his enduring childlike nature. “I was a kid for much of my life, and I don’t think I ever forgot what that felt like.”
Meet Dragon–or don’t. After all, you don’t normally want to meet fire breathing monsters. And this is one terrible dragon. The entire kingdom lives in major annoyance at this unruly dragon who spits in their cupcakes and stomps on their flowers. Seriously, what kind of dragon steals candy from baby unicorns? Now, if, like every parent, you’ve had just about ENOUGH with your child sometimes, you might relate to the king who is at loss when it comes to this orange, winged horror.
The king calls in everyone from knights to nobodies to try to help with this misbehaving beast. But after the best of the kingdom try–and miserably fail–to tame the dragon, one boy does something different. Instead of putting his hands on his hips and crossing his arms, he writes a story about a brave dragon who defeats a terrible knight. With this inspirational tale, the boy befriends the dragon.
No matter how old you are, where you come from, whether or not you burp fireballs, everyone can relate to a good story. And you might get just as much from this book’s absurd humor as your child. Pizzoli’s dopey illustrations perfectly capture the terrorizing yet sometimes adorable shenanigans of our own kids. After all, who could really be mad at a dragon with such a round belly? Then again, he did stomp all over the king’s gardens.
